The Fire Pit is a newer place in the Pittston area that focuses on smoked food while providing other great non-smoked options. The place only has four tables, so there is some options for in-house dinings, but we wanted a lot of wing options and planned to spread out, so we opted for a take-out experience. Since this was take-out, it’s not the best representative of the dine-in experience, so I’ll provide my opinion on my brief time inside. As soon as you walk in, you’ll get a whiff of all the smoked meat, which was fantastic. The place was very clean, which can likely be attributed to the fact that it only opened within the last couple months. The owners were very friendly and conversational. I wonder if they have an opportunity to expand into the back or parking lot to allow outdoor dinings to give it that smokehouse, dine-in feel.

The wings seemed to hover around your average price for a non wing night. At the time of our visit, they did not offer a wing night. You could get 12 wings for $13.95, or 6 for $7.50 if you wanted more variety. I made the mistake of assuming that all their wings were smoked, but found out they were actually on a different part of the menu too late. I think if they were to call out in the wing section that you should check out the smoked section of their menu for their smoked wings, it would draw more attention to that option. Their smoked wings are a little pricier at 8 wings for $13.95. I will definitely need to make a return visit to give the smoked wings a try.

The Fire Pit offers a fairly robust amount of wing flavors. Pair that with the fact that you can get all the wings smoked, it doubles the possibilities. They include your classics like Hot and BBQ as well as a lot of good mixes of flavors such as a couple of options of Cajun, a couple options with Honey, Reg Garlic Old Bay, Teriyaki, and more.

I started out with the classic Hot as my first wing. These wings were a thinner, red sauce that had a pretty solid flavor. They were not super spicy, so don’t let the “Hot” name deter you too much. I was a huge fan of the presentation of the Cajun Ranch wing. Whenever I see a creamier, orange sauce, I tend to gravitate to it. These wings were definitely more ranch than Cajun. They had a decent flavor, but I wish more of that Cajun flavor was present. Finally, the best of the bunch for me was the Hot Horseradish. These wings had a real solid heat to them with a fantastic horseradish flavor. They were well balanced and tasty. I highly recommend,.

The Fire Pit, which is located on Suscan Road in my neck of the woods in Dupont, is a newly created place. It has only existed since April and let me tell you it’s the time of place that this area needs.

It’s an interesting setup at The Fire Pit. It’s not a bar or anything like that. Instead, I feel it is mostly, at the moment anyway, a takeout style of operation. There are about three tables that are inside the place so yes you can eat there if you’d like. But to me, it is definitely a place where grabbing excellent takeout is the main play here.

Perhaps in the future, they will expand to having outdoor seating with fire pits all over the land. That be wonderful.

The calling card at The Fire Pit is of course real-deal BBQ. They have all the equipment necessary to show the people from Memphis, South Carolina, Texas, and all the other southern states that Dupont knows their way around a smoker.

Although we didn’t have a traditional server or bartender, that doesn’t mean that the hospitality wasn’t excellent. I’m pretty sure the woman behind the counter is one of the owners and she was very nice. She talked to us for a bit and introduced us to the chef, who I would guess is also an owner, and both of them very much salt of the Earth folks.

Lynch and I ended up taking our wings back to my house. My basement was looking pretty good that evening so yes I’m going to include that as part of the score.

Ultimately, it’s worth testing the Suscan Scramer to get a piece of The Fire Pit.

    Wing Size: 7

The wings at The Fire Pit are well-sized. I’d put them in the slightly above-medium range if that makes sense. If you’re a wing aficionado then it easily makes sense.

The prices and denominations are as follows: 6 for $7.50, 12 for $13.95, 20 for $22.95, and 30 for $33.95. If my math is somewhat correct, I think that puts a wing at $1.25.

If you get 18 and your standard order is 20 like mine is, which I did, I believe there is a very good chance that you will be full.

18 flavors in all is what you can get at The Fire Pit. I think that’s a tremendous amount of flavors to start off with. Not only are the standard flavors you can get and not only are there some unique choices, but I love how The Fire Pit is practical and savvy about its variety.

What I mean is that they have multiple flavors that incorporate ranch, honey, and garlic. Those condiments are ones that I’m pretty sure every restaurant and home in the world has on hand. So, it makes sense to splice them with other sauces as much as you can. I could be wrong but I don’t think it creates that much more work to do that.

One thing that needs to be stated is that one of the reasons we decided to go with The Fire Pit was to try their smoked wings. Wouldn’t you believe it but Lynch and I completely forgot to order any smoked wings. Hand up, that’s our bad. I guess we’ll just have to go back and order them. Poor us.

The wings were crispy for their size, which we all know matters.

As you know, when it comes to trying a new place out I’m a firm believer in sampling their “hot.” Well, Lynch got those so I got the red garlic, which is their hot with garlic caked on them. Loved this flavor. Their hot is flavorful with good spice and heat but not anything overpowering and the added sharpness of the garlic brought it home.

Next was the Pit Sauce. These certainly had an influx of their hot mixed with some other base flavor. Honestly, I’m not certain what it was but it was good because I ate all of them real in style.

Finally, there was the Cajun garlic blue cheese. These were my favorite. I know I’m a sucker for anything with Caju and blue cheese but this flavor was elite. The highlight of this flavor was the Cajun aspect. It had a top-level spice that tried its best to take over only to get extinguished by the blue cheese.
