Porkiez is a newer place located in Throop, taking over the building of an older establishment called Mazie’s. It seems it’s a requirement to have a ‘z’ in your name at this location. Regardless, Porkiez is an updated, remodeled version with lots of TVs and seating. The inside includes a large, rectangular bar with plenty of seating around it, some sit-down tables, and bar-height tables. It also includes a game room with a claw game that caught my eye as well as other typical bar games. Sadly, I did not partake in the claw game, although it is a major pastime of mine. It was not super packed on our visit, so the service and food was really fast, Our waitress/bartender was also super friendly and attentive, so high marks for her.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to base wing size on affordability and wing night prices. Wing prices were super high, but now they seem to be going down. Either way, I still think the 75 cent wings at Porkiez were very reasonable, especially considering they were all pretty large and contained a good crisp. You can place your wings in orders of 5 if you want more of a variety.

    Wing Flavors: 7

Porkiez has a good selection of flavors on their menu. They carry many of your typical flavors such as variations on Buffalo, BBQ, and Honey Mustard. They also offer some varieties of Garlic Parm wings, honey-based wing flavors, and a couple dry-rub options. You won’t find anything too outside the box here, but I’m sure you’ll still find something you’ll like.

For this visit, I order three different flavors: Hot Buffalo, Hot Garlic Parm, and Teriyaki. The Hot Buffalo were were a nice orange sauce wing with an enjoyable buffalo sauce taste and a bit of spice. Even though they are labeled as the Hot Buffalo, I do not think the spice was too much. They had a good flavor. The Teriyaki were a sticky, brown sauce with a slight sweetness and a hefty amount of saltiness. If you prefer your Teriyaki sauce a bit on the saltier side, as I often do, these are the Teriyaki wings for you. Finally, The Hot Garlic Parm were the standout wings for me. They had the same orange sauce of the Hot Buffalo with a great balance of garlic and Parmesan and the right amount of heat. These wings were really delicious,.

Porkiez is a relatively new establishment right in the heart of Throop, which is really close to all the other body parts of Throop since it’s only a mile and a half long. I think the place used to be Mazie’s once upon of time. Lynch and I were there for business purposes.

Now. it is called Porkiez with a distinct Z on the end of it. No idea if Porkiez has any kind of relationship with Morganz since both like to use Zs instead of an S. More to follow.

Maybe Porkiez is really into the 1981 classic Porky’s? Perhaps the bar is a big Zydrunas Ilgauskas(affectionally known as Big Z when he played in the NBA) bar. Who knows?

What I can tell you is that it was very nice and clean inside. You can tell that a lot of work was put into the place. There were a good amount of TVs around the bar area and up on the walls. There was also a little game room there that reminded me of bar/restaurants from the past.

I was very relaxed in the place. It was calm and I liked that.

Our server was quite nice, knowledgeable about everything Porkiez offered, and joked around with us about random stuff.

There was a decent selection of beverages on tap. I went with a Troegs Oktoberfest that really hit the spot.

It’s so hard giving ratings out given the climate of wing prices out there. Wings were out of this world expensive months and years ago. Then, it was said that wing prices went down in the area. So again, who knows?

The wings at Porkiez are 75 cents per wing and the size of them was solid. Not crazy large while also not being tiny. You can get your standard order of wings and still walk away full. Unless you don’t. In that case, order more.

    Wing Flavors: 7

Porkiez has 18 different sauces to choose from. That’s a very good amount of flavors. It shows that they give a rip about their wings.

You can the standard flavors that you can get anywhere else. But Porkiez, smartly, adds on their menu that you can get hot, hot garlic, mild, mild garlic. hot honey, mild honey. Why is that smart? Because most places have all those flavors as well but they have them all listed. They’ll tell you that you can get them but listing them gives you a lot more flavors listed. It matters.

The two rarest flavors are Porketta and Ranch dry rubs.

    Wing Taste (x2): 6

The wings at Porkiez were fine. They did the job. I left full. I got my standard 20 wings. First was Hot Buffalo. I thought this was the best one I had. There was sufficient heat but nothing that was too overpowering or damaging to the body. Good overall flavor.

I was in a honey mustard mood so I got honey mustard. Makes sense. The honey and mustard were well represented. Each of them did their job and came together well.

Next was the butter and garlic. I think there’s room to improve with this flavor. It seemed like it was simply melted butter placed on the wings, with much of it settling at the bottom of the basket. Throw some seasoning in there and mix the garlic with the butter so that the butter doesn’t remove the garlic from the wing. That can happen with butter garlic.

Lastly, was the Porketta dry rub. Another flavor that the only thing needed to make them even better is more seasoning that sticks to the wings. Cake that stuff on there.
