We’ve made a return trip to Heil’s! List to the podcast review at the bottom of this post.

We’re always a fan of the wings at Heil’s. They feature some tasty sauces and one of the best Hot Ranch wings around. You cannot beat it! In this podcast, hear all about the wing sauces we tried. We also go on a bit of a rant about the lights around Scranton and Dickson City. I mean, what’s the deal with that light up by K-Mart?! It makes no sense!

If you want to listen to the podcast on a previous visit (rant free) or read about some of our earlier visits, head over to the Heil’s Review Page.

Heils looks super large on the outside, with plenty of parking around it. Inside, it looks much smaller, but you have to keep in mind there is a large second floor with a balcony that overlooks the first floor dance area. The dining for wing night is mostly kept to the first floor though, with an even mixture of tables and bar space. It is a very big bar. There is also a pool table and darts to play. Apparently, it is a very hopping place on Monday and the weekends for the younger crowd, but you would never guess that by the wing night. It is mostly a older crowd. The décor of the place reminds me a haunted house from a bad movie. Old wallpaper, pictures, and mirrors. It’s a bit odd. Also, the bartender is kind of slow with the whole process. The wings took a while too, but the bartender did let us know before hand that it would likely take a while. I hate places where you basically have to shoot a flare to let the person know you are done or need a drink. It’s pretty obvious with the empty plates near the end of the bar and empty glasses that we are looking for our check.

These wings were amazing for the price. They were massive for any price. And that price tag of $0.35 made it that much sweeter. (Quick disclaimer: the wings did not actually have a price tag attached to them).

There is not an outrageous assortment here, but a nice mixture nonetheless. Sweet and Spicy and Hot Ranch are always nice additions to see on the menu that you won’t get everywhere else.

I ordered myself the Hot, Hot Ranch, and Hot Garlic Parmessan. Hot were highly enjoyable. The wings were covered in the sauce and it had a good spicy flavor. I’ve been noticing a lot of places advertise Hot, but you end up with a mild. That is not the case here. Very spicy, but very flavorful. Hot Ranch were outstanding. If you’re here, you need to order this wing. It had neither a super Hot nor Ranch flavor, but a unique flavor of it’s own. Even if Heils is just mixing hot sauce with Ranch, they found the perfect amount for the flavors to balance each other out. Oddly enough, the Hot Ranch seemed a bit spicier than the Hot. One would think the Ranch would make it more mild, but nope. Garlic Parmessan were pretty delicious as well. The garlic was there, but not overpowering. The grated parmesan cheese added a nice touch with the hot sauce. Overall, awesome wings.

Alright, here’s the deal with Heil’s and its environment. For their wing night, the atmosphere is pretty dull, nut much going on. There are people there sitting at the bar and that’s fine but it isn’t a lively crowd. But, if you were going there on the weekend or surprisingly on a Monday, then you would find a more fun time. But I was there for wings, so I was fine with it. There is a pool table and a place where live music could set up. Interestingly, they have an old school flat screen TV where a band would play. It’s pretty funny when you see it. It reminds me of someone’s basement. There is however no server that comes to you if you order at one of the tables. You have to order everything up at the bar. The older gentlemen wasn’t very talkative but he didn’t mind that we ordered many different wings and nothing was messed up.

The wings are big. Really big. And for 35 cents, being able to order in increments of 5 during this era of wings, that is impressive. I got my standard 20 and I was starting to feel it towards the end. You won’t walk away hungry, I promise.

Heil’s doesn’t have too many flavors to choose from. They have hot, hot ranch, sweet and spicy, garlic/parm, bbq and honey mustard. I wish they had more flavors. Keep reading and you’ll see why.

The 4 flavors I got were hot, garlic/parm, hot ranch and sweet and spicy. It’s worth mentioning that we have already been to Heils. It was actually one of the first places that we went to and when we did I was pleasantly surprised at how good the wings were. I feel this time was even better. Like I said, they were very large. But this time they were stellar all the way around. The plain hot are the only knock on the whole order. They could have been a bit more hot but I can say that about 95% of hot wings out there. They were still tasty. The garlic/parm had the garlic and parmesan flavor but also had a little hot sauce in as well, which was great. The sweet and spicy, which was my favorite the last time I was here, was fantastic once again. What I love about this wing is that it has solid spice to it. It isn’t weak at all. Then it gets supported with the sweetness and it makes one uber wing taste. The best of the night and what I think was the best in the groups mind were the hot ranch and I believe there was main reason why; it was somehow hotter than the plain hot wings. I can explain how this happened but everyone agreed that this was the case. You would think with the coolness of the ranch that it would only de-intensify the hot flavor but it did nothing of the sort. It was spicy and I was thrilled with it. Finally, a hot sauce that was in fact HOT! I never would have thought I would have found it in a hot ranch wing but I am not complaining at all.
