Bud’s Bar is an easily overlooked place along Main Ave in Archbald. In fact, I’m not sure if I would have even known about it if I didn’t live right by it in my youth. I was very surprised to find that they served food at all, let alone wings. In all actuality, they have a pretty decent menu overall. The place itself is first and foremost a bar. It has a long and narrower interior with a shuffle board, darts, and other bar games. It’s a type of place where you go to hang out with friends and enjoy a couple beers. Don’t expect anything craft here, but that’s not why you go there. We got there early around 5:30 PM, well before the usual crowd shuffles in. If I remember correctly, It was just us two, the bartender, and one other patron. The bartender got the job done, and with only a few people in the bar, we had no issues getting our drinks and food. Bud’s allows orders of five wings on their wing night, so I was a fan of that. It is a smoking bar, so be prepared to deal with some smoke. Luckily, we didn’t have that issue during our visit.

It’s nice to see a place that has a lower wing price on their wing night. It’s becoming more of a norm to find wings hovering around the 45 and 50 cent range. So, 40 cent wings is a breath of fresh air. The wings were slightly above average with a mix between a crispy and meaty consistency that I like.

Like I said before, I was surprised to learn that they even serve food here. I was even more surprised to see the amount of options available. It’s not an outrageous amount of flavors, but I liked that they do give you a good variety. The Sweet & Spicy Garlic was a flavor I’ve never seen anywhere before. Obviously, I had to try it out.

    Wing Taste (x2): 6

With the option of orders of five wings, I got four different flavors. The XHot had a nice zing in addition to the traditional hot sauce that you expect on a wing. The Sweet & Spicy Garlic were a pleasant surprise. The flavor really held true to its name. You get a slight spice in a addition to the sweet base of a sauce. The garlic added a nice taste that you don’t normally find in a Sweet & Spicy sauce. The Buffalo Ranch looked very appealing to me. It had a nice orange color that I expect from a Buffalo Sauce. The Ranch provides a good bit of additional flavor. They are exactly what’d you expect from a Buffalo Ranch. I wasn’t blown away by the, but you can never go wrong with this option. The final wing I got was the Butter-Garlic Parm. I tend to stay away from Butter Garlic wings because I’m never overly impressed. I liked that they added some Parmesan, so I decided to give it a shot. I will say that I could have used more Parmesan cheese, but they certainly pile on the garlic, which I really liked. If you like your garlic, definitely order these wings.

Bud’s bar located in the mean streets of Archbald, is your classic townie bar and that’s not a bad thing at all. I love places like that. I have a couple places where I live where I see a lot of the same places. It keeps the place consistent and that’s all most people want out of a place. Our server was also our bartender was like us. He really got caught up in The Shawshank Redemption that was on. It was early in the evening so it was pretty quiet. The place had the feeling of the kind of place where people who go who just got off work. It had a real tough, work ethic kind of vibe, which is most appreciative.

40 cents for Buds is under the average for the area and the size of the wings is nice as well. I’ve had larger but you wouldn’t ever say they were small or anything like that.

    Wing Flavors: 6

Bud’s Bar has a few flavors, which are hot, mild, extra hot, honey mustard, bbq, sweet and spicy garlic and butter and garlic parmesan and buffalo ranch. You can certainly get a taste from different aspects of flavor with this menu.

I use this word a lot but I feel I haven’t meant it more than this time. The word is solid. All the wings I got were solid. I got the extra hot, butter garlic parmesan, sweet and spicy garlic and buffalo ranch. The extra hot had a very nice zing due to all the spice in it. It honestly wasn’t overwhelming. You can get them and not need to rush for a drink. The butter garlic parmesan was loaded with everything that flavor encompasses. Tons of garlic and parmesan. That’s what I want when it comes to butter and garlic with parmesan. I want a lot of it. The sweet and spicy garlic, I thought were more sweet than spicy but again, I had tons of garlic. This place really doesn’t skimp on the essentials. Finally, the buffalo ranch were that key word; solid. The ranch was brought up by the spiciness of the buffalo sauce. It was a real delight.
