M and J’s is a relatively new place located near Scott Twp. I’ll be honest, I’m not positive it’s definitely Scott Twp., because I’m not completely comfortable with the borders of Olyphant, Eynon and Scott. I’ll just say if you head up the Wildcat, you will pass it. Either way, it is one of the few good restaurants in the area. At first, it wasn’t too busy for their wing night, but people started pouring in as time went on. It’s very nice and clean inside. They have wood paneling from the bottom to the top. They also have a decent enough sized bar and a pool table to keep you entertained. They did just open up this summer, so I know they plan on expanding on the menu. Expect pizza in the near future (unless you’re reading this in the future, then they may already have pizza). I hear the hand-cut fries are a must eat item. The service was really good. The waitress was always checking on us and making sure we had plenty of drinks. The food came out really fast too. No complaints there at all. It is nice that they allow you to place any wing amount order that you want. Be warned, it is a cash-only joint, but they do have an ATM there for you.

M and J’s has a pretty surprising amount of wing options. I wasn’t expecting it, but I was happy when I saw the menu. Obviously, they appeal to most people with the classics. They also throw some curveballs, such as the Stickey Teriyaki Ginger Brown Sugar sauce. That just sounds crazy! They also had a featured flavor this week that was not on the menu: Citrus Chipotle. It seems like they’re trying out new things. Hopefully they keep it going and get even more flavors. I love having a variety.

Wing Size: 5

The wings were $0.50 for their wing night, which I’m beginning to realize is the becoming the norm for a lot of places. The wings weren’t too meaty, but you should be fine if you order your normal amount.

Wing Taste (x2): 7

I ordered a bunch of flavors because I wanted to try all types of wings. I took down Hot, Spicy Teriyaki Ginger Brown Sugar, Ranch Romano, and Citrus Chipotle. Their regular hot is a wing that accomplished what it sets out to do. It isn’t an outrageously tasty wing, but it’s an enjoyable Hot nonetheless. The Spicy Teriyaki wing was a wing I wholeheartedly enjoyed. It was a mix between your traditional runny Teriyaki sauces and your sticky Teriyaki sauces. The sauce had a bit of saltiness to it as well as a hint of sweetness. I didn’t get spicy all that much from this wing, but I really liked it regardless. The Ranch Romano was not what I expected at all. I was thinking we were going to get a ranch dressing and hot wing sauce mix with this one. It was very different than that. It had a butter base mixed with the powder ranch dressing mix. I did enjoy this take on the ranch wing, but I wish there was a bit more of that mix on the wing. When I got a wing that did have a lot of the mix on it, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Finally, the flavor of the week was Citrus Chipotle, which was a lot like a spicy citrus. Right up front, you are hit with a wonderful citrus flavor. As time goes by, you start to feel the spice. It was a unique and delicious wing.

M and J’s, formerly the Rosemont, is located on the Wildcat in either Eynon or Scott Twp., I’m really not sure. Either way, the place is there, trust me. Upon walking into M and J’s you will instantly realize that you are in a place located in the country. With the fine craftsmanship of all the new remodeling to that genuinely nice hospitality, you get the feeling that you just walked into your grandmother’s kitchen and she’s not going to let you leave until you have something to eat. There is also a good selection of craft brew and a pool table to keep busy. We got there at about 6:45, right when people started to pile in. There’s plenty of seating, so you should be fine. Our waitress was super polite and diligent to us. It was great to be a part of.

Wing Flavors: 8

We’ve been to places that had more flavors but M and J’s had a very impressive spectrum of flavors. They touched upon all the different taste buds. They have your typical ones like mild, hot, honey mustard and bbq. But then they offer butter/garlic, ranch Romano, old bay, garbage(mild, honey mustard and bbq), sticky teriyaki ginger, mandarin orange sesame and citrus chipotle. That’s an excellent variety that I feel everyone will appreciate and find 1 or 2 that they find interesting.

Wing Size: 4

The size was about average. Not too big, not too small kind of deal. 50 cents a wing is also right around the average for wings on wing night in our area. They were also fairly crispy. They came in individual paper trays that were all on 1 big tray. It was cool, to me; it felt like getting a school lunch.

Wing Taste (x2): 8

I ordered hot, old bay, ranch Romano and garbage. The hot were not necessarily spicy as they were flavorful. I’ve mentioned this with other places and their hot wings; sometimes you get a sauce that has more of a marinara like quality to it. I think that is what happens here and I have no problem with it. They are very flavorful with a nice tang to them. The old bay wings were alright but if I can make a slight suggestion. I would use less butter to them because all the old bay seasoning tends to fall off and collect at the bottom of the plate, where it’s difficult to smear the wing in to get the seasoning to stick to it. The garbage was recommended to me and they did not disappoint. As I wrote earlier, the garbage are a combination of mild sauce, honey mustard and bbq. You immediately get the sweet flavor of the honey mustard then you get that taste of a bit of a kick from the mild and bbq sauce. They complement each other extremely well and have a good balance. Finally, my favorite, just barely are the ranch Romano. The ranch Romano are like a butter/garlic with added herbs but on top is a fine offering of grated Romano cheese. You can taste the difference between the Romano cheese compared to the normally offered grated parmesan cheese. It’s a rich taste that makes you want to have so many more so go ahead and do that.
