2. Diskin’s

  • Location: Scranton
  • Wing Night: Tuesday – 35 cent wings
  • Wing Flavors: Mild, Medium, Hot, Ridiculous, BBQ, Honey Mustard, Garlic Caesar, Hot Garlic Caesar, Cajun Ranch, Whiskey Diskins, Bacon Whiz

Diskin’s is a smaller bar located in the Minooka area of Scranton, but don’t let the size fool you because they really pack a punch when it comes to their wings. They don’t have a huge selection of flavors, but they more than make up for it with the size of the wings and taste of their wing sauces.

3. Backyard Ale House

  • Location: Scranton
  • Wing Night: Tuesday – 10 for $6 or 25 for $12
  • Wing Flavors: Backyard Traditional (Mild or Hot), Mango BBQ, Dr. Pepper Chipotle, Orange Teriyaki, Fra Diavolo

These guys may be new to the wing scene, but I love what they’ve done so far. Although it may look like they don’t offer many flavors, they switch it up each week with their selection. They do only serve wings on their wing night, which is a Tuesday, so be sure to stop in and see what new and unique flavors they are offering. In addition to having one of the best beer selections in the area, they have an outdoor, backyard section where you can enjoy delicious brews and tasty wings while taking in some fresh, summer air.

4. Town Tavern

If people are talking about some of the best wings in the area, it’s almost guaranteed someone will bring up Town Tavern. These guys are well known for their wings in NEPA for a good reason, the wings are delicious. Anthracite Grill is a wonderful place to go with a group of friends for tasty wings and a cold beer. Not only does Anthracite provide one of the largest options of wing flavors in Wilkes-Barre, but they also have a beer list to match. With unique flavors like Fu Manchu and Cactus Jack, you’re bound to find something different that tickles your fancy. Although they do have plenty of seating in the dining room, be sure you make a reservation because the place gets pretty busy on wing night.

6. The Chicken Coop

The Chicken Coop has been around the block in NEPA. After having to relocate a couple times, they have finally nested in Wilkes-Barre along the Boulevard. Regardless of where the Chicken Coop has been, they are always bound to have a following for the wings they make. While travelling along the main street of Dickson City, you have probably passed the unassuming corner bar of Smiler’s without a second thought. You have made a huge mistake for missing this gem. All their wings are great, but the Teriyaki and Asian Ginger wings are some of the best around. Ask your waitress for all the flavors, as they are not specifically listed on the menu. If you’re into martinis and wings, this should be your go to spot. And if, for some crazy reason, you don’t like wings, Smiler’s has a large menu with other delicious food for you to choose.

8. Andy Gavin’s

Andy Gavin's Sign

If you’re looking for a nice restaurant to sit outside while you’re eating some wings, Andy Gavin’s is the place for you. They have a huge, wrap-around porch with seating as well as a small patio section for outdoor dining. This is another place that takes pride in their beer selection by offering a good variety of craft beers. They are also known for their homemade chips, which come in many flavors. And I will let you in on a little secret; all the chip flavors can be put on hot wings if you’re feeling adventurous. The NEPA Wing Men recommend sticking with the regular hot wing options, though.

People in NEPA love to use Carbondale as the butt of their jokes, but there is at least one place that is worth checking out: The Peanut Bar. It’s a nice bar with great service and delicious wings. The Peanut Bar offers an interesting flavor called the Garbage wing, which is a combination of all the wing flavors. Although some patrons may be turned off by this idea, it’s a wing that works and has amazing taste. If you live in the Carbondale area, this is a place you need to check out.

10. The Penalty Box

Another fantastic wing place in the Minooka area, The Penalty Box really knows how to make some wings. With a long bar and plenty of seating, you shouldn’t have an issue finding a seat on their wing night. The interesting flavors they offer are great on all kinds of level. If you’re a fan of the super spicy, try the Habanero Ranch. It’s an outrageously hot sauce with incredible flavor. Not all the flavors are on the menu so ask your friendly waitress what special wings they are serving when you go.

  1. Just wondering if you tried The Dugout wings? A small neighborhood bar in Southside Scranton. Would appreciate your thoughts if you have the opportunity to stop by. Thanks!

  2. The one place I think that was forgotten was the Rusty Nail the Porketta wings are amazing. Also the garbage wings at the Peanut Bar are awesome.

    • We’ve been to the Rusty Nail before and loved it. If we made a top ten based on Scranton only, Rusty nail would definitely be on it.

    • Haggerty’s is another great place, too! It was very hard to just choose ten with so many amazing wing places in the NEPA area.

  3. I’ve had 8 of the 10 places on this list but still always have to come back to Micky Gannons being my favorite…you either love em or hate em

    • I agree. People go crazy for Mickey Gannon’s. I want to make it back there to try their new sauce flavor. I believe it’s a Caesar Garlic. Definitely worth a revisit.

  4. I would like to suggest dantes deli and beverage right down the st from the penut bar in carbondale. They also have very, good wings with a variety of sauces to choose from! I also enjoy the penut bar tho!

  5. While the Town Tavern is my absolute favorite hands down I think on the list should be the Y-Knot in Elmhurst and possibly Plains Pub.
Sadly The P-Box used to be good until they decided to allow smoking which is an absolute turn off while trying to enjoy food…. they automatically takes them off of our list.

    • Plains Pub!!! I have heard that from a few people and never tried it. Now I may have to. You hear something enough, it’s GOTTA be true!

  6. and how could I forget the Tipsy Turtle… Garlic Parm has to be the best wing flavor any place in the area has to offer!

Heard alot about the “R” Bars wing, first & last time went in for wing and found they are very EXPENSIVE & OVER PRICED @ $5.25 for ONLY SIX WINGS !! WOW ! That makes a dozen of wings $10.50 (plus cost of blue cheese & celary @ $3) = Grand total for chicken wings that cost approx $3 to make (“COST”) = $13.50
They are pricing themselves right out of the market, specially in a town that has no jobs, low wages, etc . . ..
    ! UGH !

    • Why don’t you go on their wing night, which is a Tuesday. Wings are only 45 cents. That’s more than a great deal for the quality of these wings.

  8. I consider myself a bit of a Wing expert…very surprised you don’t have Zaleski’s and Loading Dock. They are both EASILY better than The Chicken Coop and Penalty Box. Penalty Box is great and deserves a high ranking, but not above Zaleskis and Loading Dock. Good call with Diskins. Their wings are EPIC and would be my # 1. I now have to try R Bar and Grill.

    • Zaleski’s are tremendous, they really are. And the Loading Dock are relocating to the front of the complex and last we checked, they got rid of their wing night.

  9. Very few places have both great wing and great pizza. It’s usually one or the other (or neither). The Frog Pond in WB has both. AND just opened this spring in Taylor is Winners Circle, a NASCAR themed restaurant. They have 43¢ wing night everyday. They have the Kings Wings Challenge. 43 wings in 43 minutes and they’re free. They’re in the prices of expanding already and adding a full sir down bar but do offer beer and wine now.

  10. you need to try rep’s place on Jackson st in west side. tues is their wing night. garlic parm and oriental wings are great

    • The Chipotle Ranch are good. The Creamy Bacon Horseradish are fantastic, and if they have the clams casino, get that too.
