  For some reason, people judge Kelly’s as the height of wing places in Scranton. I was here once before years ago, and I was not overly impressed. In fact, that one experience has made me push off going to this place. The place is largely a restaurant with a small bar area in a separate room to the side. If you’re going on wing night, either plan to go early or plan to wait. The crowd appeared to be mostly high school aged kids as well as families, so we were able to sidestep the rush by sitting at the bar. The bar was tended by nice waitresses who were friendly and attentive to their customers. The entire experience was very quick. We sat right down, ordered our food, got the wings in about 5 minutes, and quickly paid our checks. We were not there longer than we needed to be. The place has a very friendly atmosphere where you can go with a bunch of friends to enjoy dinner. It’s not a bar scene by any means, so don’t expect any darts, pools, or rowdiness.

  I’ve heard of veal beef before, but never have I seen veal chicken. The joke here is that the wings were especially tiny, like they came from a baby chicken. It’s a sad image to imagine, all those baby chickens walking around without wings, I know. It was odd, because while they were small, they were perfectly proportioned for their size. It wasn’t like they were deep fried to long and completely dried out, but they were just small wings. Order more wings than you normally would in order to leave full.

  Kelly’s offers more flavors than I remembered. It’s very standard flavors and nothing creative, but at least you get a bit of variety.

  Like I said before, people go crazy for Kelly’s wings and use them as the standard for wings in Scranton. This has got to stop. The wings are super small and the sauce isn’t even all that great. From my understanding, the wings used to be much larger in the past, but that still doesn’t make up for the sauce taste. I ordered the Hot, Hot Caesar, and Hot Garlic. The plain Hot sauce is super salty. The good flavor can be tasted ever slightly underneath the saltiness, but it’s understated. Since I ordered a variety of Hot for all my flavors, the saltiness overwhelmed all the other flavors, too. They all tasted extremely similar. The Hot Caesar had that same hot sauce, with a very slight hint of Caesar, and the same with the Hot Garlic. I did try the plain Caesar, and without the saltiness, it was a pretty tasty wing. They need to do something with that hot sauce to make it a little more enjoyable. I honestly don’t get how people love these wings so much.

  The well-spoken about Kelly’s in Scranton is an establishment that gets mentioned a lot when someone asks “where can I get good wings in this area?” I remember coming here when I was in high school and having to wait 30 minutes until I was able to sit down. That is not the case anymore. As soon as you walk in, you get the vibe that is a family eatery. The atmosphere is a lively one where you can hear the aftermath of a well-executed joke quite often. We sat at the bar area and had a fine time watching the news. One of the bartenders was our servers and she was nice. The reason why the rating is a 6 is because we were only there for 45 minutes. We had our food out real fast. I’m assuming on wing night they make tons of them and could just get them out to people as fast as they walk in. I just kind of hurried.

  Now 40 cents isn’t a bad deal at all for wings on a wing night especially in this era of economics but you will have a hard time finding smaller sized wings anywhere. If you have any kind of dinner appetite, I suggest you order 25 because will not get the job done.

  Not much of selection here. They have hot, hot garlic, Caesar, honey mustard and bbq. Pretty standard stuff and I get it. Kelly’s has been a wing staple for many years and simply don’t need to get creative because they know people are going to show up on Wednesday anyways.

  The taste of the wings at Kelly’s, for me, is just average. The hot had some kick to them, which was appreciated. The BBQ wings were like BBQ wings you get anywhere. They were forgettable. The Caesar was like you would expect with simply Caesar dressing coating them. Not a bad taste, just typical. The best flavor I had was the honey mustard. Good balance of sweet honey and tangy mustard. The biggest I had with all of the wings were that the part of the wings that were facing the ceiling was generally the part that had sauce on them. The backside was consistently dry. That’s annoying to me especially when it doesn’t need to happen.
